Then the theologians and church leaders brought him a woman caught in adultery. And after putting her in front they said to him, "Teacher, we caught this woman in the very act of adultery! Now in our law, Moses commands us to stone such a woman to death. But what do you say?"
They said this trying to trap him so they would have something with which to accuse him.
But Jesus stooped down and began writing on the ground with his finger.
When they kept asking him, he looked up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you throw the first stone at her." And he stooped down again and wrote on the ground.
Then those who heard went out one by one, starting with the oldest, so that Jesus was left alone with the woman standing there.
When Jesus got up, he looked at the woman and said to her, "Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?"
She said. "No one, sir."
And Jesus said to her. "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."
